Looks like there will be alot to put on this page. I will probably be adding to
this page more frequently than the others (except for maybe the plumbing). I
’ve pretty much finished the gooseneck area. The cabinet doors are made and
installed with the help of a wonderful little clamp from
Harbour Freight called a 4 corner clamp. It’s been a great tool for making the frames for the cabinets.
The cabinet doors are made from 3/8” x 2” x 36” pieces of high grade pine cut with 45º angles and glued with the same PL Construction Adhesive. I then attached pieces
of the paneling that I
’m using cut to size and attached with 1/2” wire nails. They turned out better than I figured they would and are not heavy
at all. The hinges used are self closing external flush mount hinges I bought a
Home Depot.
I used a few different pieces of trim. Mainly corner, quarter round and casing.
I used the corner for, well... the outside corners, the quarter round for
around the carpet and the flooring and the casing for inside corners. If you
look at the
pictures close enough you can see where I used the types. I attached them with
finishing nails but drilled small holes through them to keep them from
splitting apart.
The carpet I got from my mom when she had new carpet put in and it’s an earth tone so it worked out great. I cut it to size with a box knife and
some shears. I attached a 2x4 across the opening of the bed area and ran my
carpet over it. I used the same PL Construction Adhesive again for the carpet
so it probably will never come up. I used carpet tacks to attach the carpet
under the 2x4. I then finished it with quarter round molding all around the
edge where it meets the wall.
I have since made a table and installed the fridge and some blinds for the
windows. I
’ve also finished the paneling except for the inside of the large closet.
The flooring has been cut and laid out. It is a tongue and groove laminate type
flooring like Pergo that I got from my mom again and was pretty easy to work
with. It
’s a nice cherrywood color. There was just enough of it. In fact I had to cut the
ends off of 2 pieces and butt fit them but it still looks better than expected.
It will be glued down with construction adhesive. I
’m really pleased with the way it turned out.

Paneling on the right side with small closet and light switches.
Center shot of the bed area. You can see the 2x4 I attached.
Paneling on the left side with with radio and fan control switch.
Carpet finished being cut and speakers installed.
Quarter round molding that put along wall.
Radio/CD Player. This will eventually be replaced with a DVD player.
Light switches. I decided to put the lights over the bed on a different switch.
It
’s part of the 2. The single switch is for the porch light.
Finished cabinet door frame.
Finished cabinet door. This one is going on the nose storage.
Nose storage doors installed.
Overbed Cabinet doors left side. These doors open up instead of to the side.
Overbed Cabinet doors right side.
Small closet door opened. I had to modify the boot box cover a bit so it would
open. I put a 1x2 along the edge and trimmed a bit of the lid off.
A good shot of the bed area with all the cabinet doors installed.
Small closet now has a door. This frame was a bit bigger and I was not able to
use the corner clamp but it turned out pretty good.
Slant wall paneled. I still have to finish this up. I ran out of daylight. The
sides and top of the walk-thru are going to have fluted casing along it with a
block at the top with a star in it.
Ceiling almost finished. I’m going to put some thin flat pieces of molding around the edges of the A/C.
Another shot of the closet with sink.
The ceiling is finished being paneled.
The Large closet, part of the microwave shelf and long wall are paneled.
Large closet paneled on the outside. The light switch will operate a light
inside the closet and 2 lights above the sink and bench seat.
It’s just the perfect size for us.
The fridge is in. It’s a Whirlpool 2.7 cf fridge.
I used a 1x3 and drilled a 1 7/8” hole with a boring bit to put the feet of the fridge in. I then screwed it into
the floor. It doesn
’t move.
This is a shot of the 1x3 with the fridge door open so you can see it better. I’ll have to remove them and put them back on top of the laminate floor I’m putting down.
These blinds are 25” and are the inexpensive vinyl blinds from Wal Mart. I’ll be building a valence to go around the top.
Here’s the table I have built. I used 2 bases and a 29 1/2” stand. I’m not sure of the wood. I found it a work and it looked nice.
The table top is a piece of wood I found at work. I cut it to size which is 17”x14” so it’s not to big. I coated it with polyurethane
The table floor base. It will eventually have to be removed to put my flooring
in. I was thinking of using a flush mount base after installing the flooring.
We
’ll see.
This is the under-table base. It’s the same as the one on the floor only under the table.
Another shot. It works very well. The cushions I found at Wal-Mart. They fit
perfect and my wife likes them. Eventually we will have different ones made.
Long wall and cabinets are paneled. All that’s left is the inside of the large closet
Cabinet doors installed.. Note the trim.
A good shot of the long wall after the doors are installed
These pulls will go on all the doors.
I found these pulls on Ebay. They are a cast iron star pull.
Flooring being installed. It’s tongue and groove laminate flooring.
Another shot of flooring being installed.
Flooring cut and laid out. Now just needs to be glued into place.
Another angle of the flooring laid out.
Close up of the flooring.
Closet door being clamped. My 4 corner clamp wasn’t quite big enough.
Closet is finished being paneled. I have added a hanging bar and a shelf.
Microwave installed. Need to get the vents.
