I have created this site as a reference for others who wish to do the same thing
I have done... install Living Quarters in their horse trailer. I
’m hoping to get a little more in-depth than I can on my Webshots page, describing materials used and things I’ve found out to do, not to do or would go back and do better. You can also see
pictures of the first trailer I installed Living Quarters in in the
Webshots pages.
When I first started this project, I had a hard time finding “resources” to look at since I am the type of person that finds it easier to see things
done rather than have them described to me and try to visualize them. I looked
at alot of finished LQ
’s but could not find pictures of “ones in progress”, i.e. how to go about doing the fir stripping and such. I found one person who
had some pictures of his progress and that
’s all needed. I asked him questions and bugged him to death probably. I then
found a forum that was a great help and I still log on to today and that is
www.horsetrailerworld.com. The people on this forum were and still are a great help. I have learned so
much just by being a part of this forum.
As far as tools and supplies needed, it really depends on how much your wanting
to do. It can be as simple or complex as you want to make it, but I would keep
it to what you think your capable of doing. Ask questions about things your not
familiar with. The power tools I have and used are as follows: 10
” skill saw, 10” miter saw, 10” table saw, 5 1/2” 18v finishing saw, 18v 3/8 drill, 3/8 corded power drill, saber saw, Roto-zip
and an orbital sander. You don
’t need all of these but I would at least think you would need the skill saw and
I could not have lived without my miter saw and definitely some kind of drill
to handle drilling and driving into metal.
When it’s all finished I intend to have the luxuries of home, well at least as much as
you can stuff in a 4
’ short walled trailer, like a refrigerator, microwave, hot water heater, sink
and a cowboy shower, DVD player and a flip-down screen (some of this stuff is
going to be added later and can be easily). It will also have a butt-load of
storage. I also intend to add a water pump and water tank, solar panels and a
converter/inverter. Other ideas are sure to come as well.
You can click on most of the pictures to enlarge them. I am not an expert at
installing LQ
’s or construction for that matter and most of this I have learned by just doing
it, looking at what others have done and asking alot of questions. So please
enjoy the site, look around and have fun.
Safe Riding,
Todd
